With a bang…

…with a bang (2008)

I made this in 2008, after a visit to NYC, a year after my grandma passed away. The fireworks are from the 7/4/8 in Brooklyn, visiting my friend Leo. The rest of the images are from the days shortly after my grandma’s passing on 7/4/7 — she was buried on 7/7/7.

The first frame of the video is arriving in Kansas City at dawn a few days before July 4th. My dad had called about 10 hours before this moment. I was getting out of a shower – about to go to some Austin show. Instead, I packed a suitcase and drove. I already had the habit to drive home over night to go “home”.

My grandma Ruth had a stroke after a falling from a ladder in front of her house. It was getting repainted from a vibrant blue to some ugly neutral color.  After a medical mix up with her blood thinners that led to the stroke, she declined quickly. 

The rest of the video shows the wake, meals with family/friends, and just an exploration of my grandma’s home.
